The need for a universal digital language capable of transmitting clinical information across the network has led to an agreement between NEMA (National Electric Manufacturer of America) and the ACR (American College of Radiology).
The most important result has been the creation of the DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) standard protocol, describing "how to exchange images" in a standard way that is recognized worldwide.
The full integration of DICOM networking within Esaote's Information Systems allows the formatting and exchanging of high-resolution digital images and medical information in real-time through workstations, PACS and printers located in different areas but directly connected.
The possibility to store, review and communicate clinical images and related reports over LAN (Local Area Network) and WAN (Wide Area Network) networks in real-time creates innovative shortcuts to new diagnostic frontiers.
Easy storage and retrieval of still images and continuous loops of patient reports are some of the possibilities offered by the PC-based technology. Any problems related to exam booking, patient database writing, image storage, selection and printing are now solved by simply clicking the mouse or pressing a key.
