This CME course has been designed and organized by Serono Symposia International Foundation
(www.seronosymposia.org) and has been made possible thanks to an educational grant from ESAOTE.
Aim of the course
The role of Ultrasound in the clinical workup of patients affected by musculoskeletal disorders become increasingly important in recent decades. Ultrasound is a relative low-cost technique that provides a dynamic evaluation of multiple joints in the same examination. Moreover, the technological improvements in gray scale and Doppler allow a deep and informative evaluation of both morphology and vascularization. For all these reasons, Ultrasound has been integrated into standard rheumatology practice, leading to several issues related to training, competence and accreditation, emphasizing the needs to improve physicians’ knowledge and expertise in this evolving field. The aim of this course is to reinforce participants’ understanding of the application of Ultrasounds in rheumatology and to improve practical competences in performing Ultrasound scanning of patients and interpreting the results.
Learning objectives
By attending the course, learners will be able to:
- Evaluate musculoskeletal pathology in inflammatory rheumatic diseases with ultrasound in combination with clinical examination
- Apply a systematic ultrasound scanning for large-vessel vasculitis
- Identify abnormalities with ultrasound and clinical examination in connective tissue diseases
Target audience
Participants should have some experience in musculoskeletal ultrasound and should be interested also in other applications of ultrasound in rheumatology, such as vasculitis and Sjögren’s syndrome.
Accreditation
