Examination Procedure

The Virtual Navigator capabilities can be performed at best by following step by step the below-mentioned examination procedures: the results can be considered the top-level nowadays available in this advanced medical field.

FOUR STEPS PROCEDURE

  1. Acquisition of CT/MR high-res images or CT/MR image retrieval from PACS (DICOM format)
  2. Identification of internal markers to correlate US probe positioning with CT/MR imaging and assure global system precision:
  3. Navigation and real-time spatial correlation between the two modalities
  4. Real-time Fusion Imaging among CT/MR/US scanning

The up-to-date Intelligent Positioning (IP) system allows to define an Ultrasound target in relation to the probe in use (position and orientation) in real-time. This supports in recognizing the target with different scanning approaches once it has been set over the anatomical reference ("radar"-like modality). The "radar" window represents the view point taken from the needle tip, simulating an "eye" fixed on the needle tip which is pointing in the direction of the needle itself.

The advanced ViewFinder tool is able to provide an accurate verification and anatomical structure evaluation during the tuning phase in Virtual Navigator modality. The evidence of the same structures under evaluation is visualized in real-time both in Ultrasoud and in second modality imaging (e.g. US vs CT).
