Honorary Chairman

Formerly associate professor of Industrial Economics at the University of Genoa, Carlo Castellano started his career in the studies department of Pirelli and Mediobanca.
Director of Italsider, Italimpianti and Ansaldo in the seventies, at the beginning of 1980's he started a new project for the Ansaldo Group, Genoa, in the biomedical electronics sector, which grew into Esaote. He led the privatization of Esaote in 1994, carried out through an innovative management buy-out, while becoming Managing Director of the Company.
He took part in the above operation as well as in the management buy-out of 2006 and of 2009, through which he bacame shareholder of the Company.
At present, Carlo Castellano is member of the Board of Directors Bank of Italy (Rome), member council of Confederazione Generale dell'Industria Italiana - Confindustria (General Confederation of Italian Industry) of Genoa; chairman DIXET "Distretto di Elettronica e Tecnologie Avanzate - Club d'Imprese", Genoa.

Until September 2014 he served as chairman of Genova High Tech S.p.A., set up to develop the project of a Scientific and Technological Park in Genoa Erzelli.
Carlo Castellano was awarded Knight of the Order of Labour Merit of the Italian Republic and Premio Leonardo Qualità Italia (1998); Entrepreneur of the Year (1999); Gold Medal for merits in healthcare, from the President of the Italian Republic (2003); h.c. degree in biomedical engineering, Univ. of Genoa (2004); "A Compagna" Award for entrepreneurship (2008); Columbus Gold Medal for his activity in the biomedical sector and for his commitment in developing a high-tech cluster in Genoa (2010) and he is honorary member of Italian Society of Medical Radiology.
Carlo Castellano has a degree in Economics (University of Genoa, Italy) and is author of several texts and articles on industrial economics.
